Problem desc:

There is a branch A

There is a branch B

The branch B when I initially created it, I created it as a new branch

but later I changed the branch spec to be branch from A and did a p4

integrate on all the files. But i am not getting the file history on

the files as how they were branched or merged on the earlier branches

when I use p4 filelog Is there a way i can retrieve the file revision

history from other branches in the branch B?

I tried integrating with option -f to force retrieving revision

history. But it did not work.

Please help me with this

Thanks

Is this as easy as using the "-i" command line option to filelog? From
the help:

-----
The -i flag causes inherited file history to be displayed as well.
That is, if a file was created by branching (using 'p4 integrate'),
filelog lists the revisions of the file's ancestors up to the branch
points that led to the specified revision. File history inherited by
renaming (using 'p4 move') is displayed regardless of -i.

The issue is if I do the filelog -i in branch A I can see the file
histories from previous branches.
But if I do the same in branch B I am not able to see the file histories.
Does the meta data gets copied only if I create a branch as a branch from
A in intial check in.
My problem is in the branch B I did not do a integrate on first check in
instead I did a sync upto particular change list in Branch A and checked
in the code into branch B. Later I realized the mistake and upadted the
branch spec and did a integrate from branch A but looks like the meta data
on the file history didn't get copied.
Is there a way to fix this ?

Thanks
Ramya

Considering he's using a super-old version -

version: P4D/LINUX24X86/2004.2/71759 (2004/11/17)

I wager there's no support and it isn't inside a trial period. I see in
the release notes many fixes and updates specific to integration, and
there are a number of bug fixes specific to v2004.2 that were added
since build 2004.2/71759.

If upgrading isn't an option, perhaps running the more recent release of
2004.2 might have fixed this issue.

I doubt that the difficulty in seeing revisions is a bug. More likely
it's the result of incomplete understanding of the effects to be
expected from the actions that have been applied to branch b.

I would think even with that old version (but I would certainly want to
upgrade regardless), deleting all the files in B and then integrating
from A to B with -f -d -i would fix it up. This is the "redeploying a
branch" scenario, as described on page 280 of Laura's book.

Before going very far, get into P4V and bring up the "revision graph" for
one of the branched files.

It will give you a visual representation of the historical relationships.
It is not directly copy-able (if that's a word), but if you have this in
front of you when you run the "p4 filelog" commands, a lot more of the
output makes sense.

Also, do the filelog command on a single file, the first few times. It will
be easier to follow the histories, and you will not get buried into the mass
of data that you get from a tree. (It'll help you understand what you're
seeing, in the larger output.)

But, start with P4V's revision graph.
