[p4] Problem with Perforce Proxy

Hi,

I've decided to install Perforce Proxy, but I've stuck with the
following problem:

Using P4V client, when trying to connect to the newly installed and
configured proxy, I'm getting the error message "Server is too old for
use with Proxy".
The next step was to determine the version of the server with which
I'm trying to use the proxy, then downloaded the corresponding version
of Perforce Proxy. I did that (the first time the Perforce Proxy
version was newer), but with no success.

The next attempt was to search and download the exact version of
Perforce Proxy as the Perforce server version (2008.2/179173
(2008/12/05)), but again with no success. The only version that I've
managed to find was 2008.2, but with newer build number.

Is the version mismatch the reason for this error message, and if yes,
from where I can download the same version for Windows platform?
If this is not the reason for the error message, what else can be the
culprit - the configuration of the proxy, the configuration of the
server (for instance, disabling proxy-ing?!?!), something else?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried testing using the command line client? That will determine
whether the message is a P4V "convenience" or a restriction coming from the
proxy or the server.

I've seen this issue when chaining proxies; are you sure that your proxy
is pointing to an actual Perforce server?
