There are a lot of bugs fixed with parallel sync including silently failing
(which won't be silent if you use dmc=3 as seen in http://answers.perforce.com/articles/KB/9064 ).
We don’t have dmc set, and I'm curious:
1) If user syncs thousands of files (which is often the case for us), would it mean that the server log will be flooded with the messages if we set dmc=3?
2) Does "silently" mean that the *user* will not know whether syncing failed, or is it only not logged on the server side? The fact it's not logged - I can live with. If the user is under impression that the sync passed, when it didn’t, then it’s a problem.

I looked at the release notes trying to figure out whether our version of p4d has this issue or not, but could not figure out which fix is relevant.
We are running P4D/LINUX26X86_64/2016.1/1454320 (2016/10/19) a.k.a. 2016.1 patch 11.

There are a lot of bugs fixed with parallel sync including silently failing
(which won't be silent if you use dmc=3 as seen in
http://answers.perforce.com/articles/KB/9064 ).See our release notes
at
https://www.perforce.com/perforce/doc.current/user/relnotes.txt. The
easiest solution is to upgrade to the latest p4d, assuming you are supported.
As for no difference in performance, do check to see if you have transmit
threads running seen in "p4 monitor show -ael".And
double-check that net.parallel.max is set
p4 configure set net.parallel.max=8
p4 configure show
